Hello everyone! On my journey to conquer 15 certifications as a ‘Golden Kuberstronaut’, I’ve finally passed the 11th hurdle: the CAPA (Certified Argo Project Associate) exam! π₯³
Following my previous success with CBA (Backstage), this time I challenged an exam covering the entire Argo Project, a core component of cloud-native deployment. Although I was already actively using Argo in practice, this opportunity to theoretically organize my scattered knowledge was truly invaluable.

π οΈ “Details Hidden in Familiarity”: Why Even Practitioners Need to Study
Since I used ArgoCD extensively in my work, my preparation period was short and intense, about 2-3 days. However, as I started preparing for the exam, I discovered a much broader world than I had known! π
- Advantages of Practical Experience: The ArgoCD interface and basic Sync mechanisms were already familiar to me, which sped up problem-solving.
- Necessity of Theoretical Organization: Beyond simply ‘clicking’ to deploy, organizing the theory from an architectural perspectiveβsuch as the Analysis mechanism of Rollouts, the Sensor and Trigger relationship in Events, and the DAG structure of Workflowsβfinally revealed the true essence of the Argo Project. π§
π Key Learning Resources & Preparation Methods
The main contributors to my exam preparation were Udemy and practical summaries. I particularly utilized the following resources, recommended by the Backstage community, which had greatly helped me with the previous CBA exam.
1. Udemy Mock Exam (Essential!) This is optimal for getting familiar with the actual exam’s question types and technical terminology. By solving problems, I could immediately identify my weak areas.
2. Treasure Trove of Knowledge: Themed Learning Guide for CAPA Conquest These are articles I personally organized while preparing for the exam. If you fully understand the content of these 21 posts, passing is a sure thing! π₯

- Familiarize yourself with CR (Custom Resources): Get accustomed to the field values of key CRDs (Application, Workflow, Sensor, etc.) used in each project.
- Sync Mechanism: Knowing the difference between the Replace function and Hard Refresh, and the types of Hook Phases precisely, is the secret to a high score.
π The Result? 83/100, a Stable Pass!
I surpassed the cutoff score of 75 points and secured my certificate with 83 points! π Although I might have become complacent with a familiar tool, this opportunity to delve deep into the architecture allowed me to better understand the root causes of issues encountered in practice.
β¨ Concluding: 11 out of 15 Completed, the Summit is in Sight!
With this CAPA pass, I have now achieved 11 out of my target 15 certifications. I’ve reached approximately 73% of the entire journey! ποΈ
As a working dad and multi-jobber, it’s not easy to carve out time for studying, but the sense of accomplishment I feel with each pass keeps me going. Having conquered Argo, the pinnacle of GitOps, I will now move on to the next challenge.
Please cheer me on for the 12th hurdle! If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments, and I’ll answer them. Thank you! π
